Lisa DuPree: Today we're gonna be talking about a mindset that many of us can relate to, especially if you find yourself eating, not just out of hunger. So this is the fulfillment finder archetype that we're gonna be talking about today, and it's one of the five weight loss archetypes from my new quiz.
Fulfillment finders typically are searching for a deeper sense of meaning and satisfaction that really goes beyond food. Maybe you've noticed yourself reaching for snacks when work feels dull, or ordering takeout just to break up the monotony of another routine day.
Or you know, maybe it gets to be late afternoon and you're scrolling through social media and all of a sudden you realize your hand is in a bag of chips. You're not really hungry, but you're just eating to ease a feeling You can't quite name. Or you find yourself in the kitchen after dinner, yet again looking for some comfort in the fridge when what you really [00:01:00] want is just a little bit of spark of joy. If this sounds familiar, then this episode is for you.
So what does a fulfillment finder archetype really look like? Often it's just about seeking novelty, excitement, or some sort of mental stimulation in doing that through food. Fulfillment finders might gravitate toward a restaurant dining, , choosing really rich or indulgent foods or new and interesting flavors that can kinda give you a little bit of spark, something new, something novel.
And the archetype really isn't just about food. It's about searching for meaning and satisfaction. Maybe you feel unfulfilled at work, disconnected from your purpose or restless in your relationships. So eating has become a way to fill that void, and it does bring a moment of [00:02:00] satisfaction, even if it's temporary.
So let me paint a picture. Meet Amy, she's 52. Her kids are grown and she's been in the same career field for over 20 years, and she's been in her current role for almost a decade. It's steady work. It's not really challenging, and it pays the bills. But lately she is catching herself more and more staring at the clock and just wondering like, is this really it?
Like, is this all there is? Right. And at home? Things with her husband are me. They get along fine, but the spark that they once had is buried under routines, responsibilities and a lot of little small resentments that have built up over the years. And so most nights after dinner, Amy finds herself standing in front of the pantry.
She's not hungry, and she knows that she's not hungry. She often describes it as feeling [00:03:00] snacky. She ends up grabbing a handful of chocolate chips or opening a new bag of the latest flavor of Oreos, because that feels like a one small pleasure that she can control.
It's just a few minutes of sweetness and an otherwise flat day. She tells herself, you know, okay, it's okay. I've got this. I'll get back on track tomorrow. But deep down, she's not really craving food. Like she's craving that feeling of being alive, of feeling vibrant, of feeling seen, like she matters, and that her life still has excitement and purpose waiting to be discovered.
Maybe you can relate to that. Doing your best to eat well, stay active, keep it all together at home and at work, and yet still feeling like there is something missing. That's the real struggle for the fulfillment finder. [00:04:00] I. Fulfillment finders often know what they should be doing for their health and wellbeing.
Eating the nutritious meals, getting enough physical activity, staying consistent with whatever the habits that are gonna get them, the results they want. But despite all the effort, something still feels off. Like you might catch yourself thinking, I'm doing everything right. And why don't I feel satisfied, or maybe if I just lose the weight, I will finally feel happy.
I will finally feel satisfied. And it's frustrating because traditional diet advice doesn't address the deeper needs that are driving your eating behaviors. And that can leave you stuck in a loop constantly searching for the next program, the next food, the next quick fix to feel that spark of being alive without ever really touching on the real root of the dissatisfaction that you're feeling.
And that is a struggle for [00:05:00] so many women like Amy and it's not about willpower or you know, just knowing what to do, knowing what to eat, or knowing how to exercise, right? It's really about trying to satisfy an emotional or spiritual hunger. With food, you can be doing everything right and still feel like something's missing on the inside, and that's where the fulfillment finder gets stuck.
And this is exactly where coaching can make a huge difference. As a fulfillment finder, the goal isn't just losing weight or getting fitter, it's about creating a life that. It feels meaningful, it feels satisfying. You are at your healthiest, most vibrant self and your flourishing, and so my coaching approach really focuses on connecting your health habits to your bigger dreams, your values, and your passions.
And so with the fulfillment finder, we might start with values clarification, [00:06:00] exploring like what really matters to you now and how your choices reflect that. You'll discover non-food sources of excitement and novelty, like new hobbies, creative projects, or connection rituals.
Mindful eating is also a tool that is very helpful for self-discovery, helps you tune into what your body and mind really need in the moment, and then we integrate your health into your vision for your life. As you are flourishing, like we use goal setting, we use future self visualization to really create a foundation where physical wellbeing support your bigger dreams.
And this isn't about restriction or perfection, it's about alignment. It's about energy and clarity so that you can pursue the life you want without relying on food to fill the gaps if you resonate with the fulfillment finder archetype, [00:07:00] remember the food and the eating isn't the real problem.
It is a way to seek satisfaction. And weight loss alone is not likely going to solve that deeper life satisfaction. Can it help? Yes. But there needs to be some alignment as well with your bigger purpose and discovering what is the meaning of that weight loss.
Aligning your habits with your values creates energy, and it creates the clarity that helps you pursue your passions so that you are fulfilled. Mindful eating and self-awareness are tools that really work well with a fulfillment finder.
Relying on guilt or shame is not gonna do the trick here. If you're ready to explore your weight loss archetype and start connecting your health choices to the life you really want, I invite you to take my weight loss archetype quiz.
