Welcome to episode two of Midlife Mojo. In this episode, we'll be going over a process for honing in on your own personal vision for living life to the fullest, so that you are optimally fit and flourishing in midlife. To help you do this, I've created a free worksheet to help guide you through this process. The link to download this free resource is in the show notes.
We're going to begin today by exploring what being fit and flourishing could mean for you and your wellbeing. Creating a health vision is an empowering activity that I used to help my coaching clients connect with what is most important to them, and connect them to what they really want their future to look and be like. So by creating your own personal health vision statement, you can bring into clear focus what you really want to accomplish, and be able to have a target for getting there with your overall health and wellbeing. To help you do this, again, I've created a simple worksheet. Take a moment now and download that from the show notes.
So, the goal here for a health and wellness vision is to devise this well-crafted statement that helps focus and guide your effort. So we want it to be a positive, compelling statement of who you are, and, clearly exhibit what healthy behaviors you want to be doing consistently. Key components include being future-oriented. It's a big picture or 10,000 foot view of what you want your optimal state of health and wellness to look like. At best, it's a bold description that you are drawn toward. It is an embodiment of your overall desires in life that inspire and energize you. When you think about your health vision, you really want to get jazzed about it. So, here are a couple of examples of vision statements. My vision for next year is to improve my overall health by lowering my cholesterol and blood sugar so that I'm free of all medications and free from worry about anxiety about my health.
My vision is that in the next six months, I'll be exercising regularly so that I'm preserving my ability to function fully and live independently as I get older. And finally, my vision is that I have reversed a trend of steady weight gain so that I look better, feel younger, and I'm wearing stylish clothes that I feel super confident in. But keep in mind, there's no wrong way to do a vision, and there's no wrong vision. And each person's big picture of living life at their best is going to be different because it really reflects each individual's values, their life experiences, their current health status, as well as their future desires. There are four steps to creating your personalized health vision for being fit and flourishing. We're going to go through each step here. First, begin by imagining what you and your life would look like when you're at your best, when you are most happy, at your healthiest and most successful. This is really the time to just go big and be bold. There are no boundaries here. You want to visualize yourself having already achieved being optimally fit and already flourishing. So in this picture, you want to think about what health enhancing behaviors are you doing consistently? What are you able to do or have more of in your life that you don't have now?
Building on that, the second step is to paint a picture of the scene that you havein mind with as much detail as possible and as much color as possible. What does it really look like to be optimally functioning? What does it look like to be most successful? What does it feel like to be stepping into this version of yourself? As you are creating this vision in your mind, you're conjuring up this beautiful picture. What emotions are coming to mind? What is coming up for you? And paint that as detailed as possible. Third, you're going to think about your desires and motivation for achieving this state of health and flourishing. This is really an opportunity to get clear on what you'll be able to do more of and have more of in your life.
It's also important to notice things that are important, that are coming up, and that also kind of speak deeply to you, like they resonate in your soul. Bbecause when we do this, it's important to take time to figure out what this motivation is, what's driving you, what is really resonating for you here, You are building that strong emotional connection to this vision. And so things to think about - what's really motivating you? What's your motivation for stepping into this picture in real life? And what is it that you want to have more of in your life? What is it you want to do more of? Or who is the person that you want to be in the future? And so lastly, when you're holding this vibrant, colorful, detailed, energizing image of your best self in your mind and you have positively connected it with your values and emotions, and you're keeping that front and center, explore your understanding of the details.
Explore your understanding of what this means for you and could mean for you in your life in the future. What are, what are the most important elements here in your vision? This is another step to really take some time with because by exploring these details and these nuances here, exploring that emotion, you really begin to create the awareness of possible actions and the meaningful steps that you can take to help get you further down this path to achieving this desired state. So let's recap. We started out with talking about what health related vision is, and then stepped through that process for creating that big picture of your best self by first imagining what your life would be like, having already achieved kind of your overall health goals so that you're optimally fit and flourishing. And then taking some time to really paint out the picture in that scene with as much detail and vibrant colors as possible. And then connecting it to your values, emotions, and priorities. And then finally creating awareness of those possible next steps in meaningful actions to be able to achieve this desired state. And that brings us to the end of this episode.
